Hooray Birthday Cake Card with Scrapbook.com

Thursday, August 20, 2026

For this month's Oh So Inspired collaboration hop hosted by Call Me Crafty Al, our group was inspired by a gorgeous card from Tina S., and I took her off centered design, slanted die cuts, and sentiment on a white shadow background as my main inspiration using Scrapbook.com exclusive supplies! I built the cake from the Handful of Sweetness Decorative Die Set, cutting the frosting base from the blue sprinkle pattern paper in the Sugar Rush A2 Patterned Cardstock collection so the sprinkles were already built right in, and die cutting the cake layers from chocolate cardstock.

I added pink frosting details and a dollop on top by shading the pink cardstock pieces with a dark pink OLO marker blended out with a colorless marker for a soft gradient, then assembled the striped candle, brown tipped wick, and shaded flame before gluing the whole cake together. For the hand I die cut it from a peachy cardstock, distressed the pieces with Tea Dye Distress Ink and a light brown marker so they would read more warm toned, and added pink cardstock fingernails to finish off that adorable focal image.

For the background I die cut the Variety Edges die in a curvy squiggly line across an amethyst lilac cardstock trimmed to A2 size, then used the same die to cut the matching edge into a striped Sugar Rush pattern paper, trimming the pattern paper down half an inch on each side and a quarter inch on the bottom so it would nest inside the purple layer. I spritzed the purple cardstock with Wilted Violet Distress Spritz for a soft shimmer before gluing everything to a top folding A2 card base, then darkened my Hooray sentiment die cut with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink for an ombre look just like Tina's inspiration card before gluing it onto the white shadow die cut.

I arranged the cake and hand slightly angled toward the right side of the card, added the sentiment toward the bottom with foam adhesive for dimension, and finished everything off with a few star rub ons from the Sugar Rush Rub On Transfers scattered around the design for a fun celebratory touch. I do think looking back I would have added one more layer of dark pink cardstock between the purple and the striped paper to give the background a little more depth, so let me know in the comments what you think and how you would step it up!
